About the area

Villa Rubiela is in the town of Pitalito in Huila, which is a region of Columbia. Caturra, Colombia, Castillo and Tabi are the farm’s varietals, with the plants taking up 12 hectares of the 15-hectare farm.

About the farm

Fernando Vargas comes from a coffee-growing family in Colombia. Four years ago Fernando was able to buy his own farm and ever since, he has been dedicated to innovation and improvements in the land he bought and the coffee he grows. His determination and experience has allowed him to build a coffee business that is founded on tradition and excels through innovation. Fernando has been an employee of the local Co-op, Cadefihuila, as a coffee buyer and so is up-to-date on the market trends and operations. Fernando and his wife choose to invest in the farm as a long-term project where quality is the main priority.

Fernando is currently saving to improve the processing area in the farm and plans to add fermentation tanks, de-pulpers and drying areas. He dreams of having a quality analysis lab in the farm for him to be able to study his processes and also teach all of his employees about the importance of good agricultural practices and its impact on cup quality.

Why did you choose to work with Pact?

“Working with Pact is very important to us. We have been able to create a long-term relationship and Pact has been very important for the development of the farm and its infrastructure. We process Pact coffee very carefully, because we know the importance of coffee quality.

Working with Pact has allowed us to improve the infrastructure of the farm and to have more resources to invest in the agronomic management of the plants.”
