Our Head of coffee
“This coffee has a very delicate profile, highlighted by its orange blossom taste notes, which are led by orange but have a lingering floral touch to them with toffee in the aftertaste. The sweetness is like caramel and the acidity is orange with a buttery mouthfeel. These various components come together to produce a delicious cup of coffee.”
Farmer Richard Alexander Orduz Duarte has considered himself a coffee aficionado ever since his grandfather introduced and guided him through the production processes at an early age. After finishing high school and moving to the large city of Cúcuta at the age of 16, Duarte quickly realised that his heart wasn’t in furthering his education. Duarte decided to return his small village home of Ragonvalia and pursue his dreams in coffee production, only after months and months of hard work as a day labourer could he afford to buy his own farm; El Cabildo.
First bought by Duarte in 2005 and located in an area of the northern Colombian state of Norte de Santander called La Alhambra, El Cabildo is home to over 7,000 Castillo coffee trees. Since its purchase in 2005, El Cabildo has grown to incorporate nearly 2 hectares specifically dedicated to coffee and it’s production and has seen upgrades in infrastructure such as the mill and renovations in the quality of the trees.
Coffee farming is very important to me, becoming one is probably the most important decision I’ve ever made. It has enabled me support my wife and 2 children, while dedicating myself every day to making the best coffee in the world.
I am really happy that different people around the world appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into producing this coffee of this quality.
