Kianyangi coffee factory was established in 1991 under Murue Farmers’ Cooperative Society. Together with the factories Kavuturi, Gituara and Ngurueri, Kianyangi is known for producing top quality coffee. Embu is famous for its borders to Mount Kenya, and the river Kamithumo - which is the primary water source for coffee processing at the factory.

The Kianyangi factory is located in Kavutiri, near the city of Embu in the Eastern Province of Kenya Embu County. It is located in a strategic position within the main coffee growing zone. It experiences moderate bimodal rainfall and temperatures ranging from 13 to 24C year round. The region also has deep, fertile well-drained red volcanic soils - ideal for coffee production.
